Temperament and personaLIty

Mango has a fairly reserved personality. He’s a good boy around the house yard, very obedient, doesn’t bark very much, doesn’t run up and down fences, he’s a quiet type, not jumping all over you. Good with female dogs, but like many other male dogs can bully younger males. He does not dig or jump or lick or bark a lot.

Working ability

Paddock dog, but will work in the yards up to the force and a little along the side of the race.
Works sheep and cattle, though lacks strength alone on cattle, but has force on sheep.
Has been very useful last lambing drifting ewes with young lambs and pushing the lambs along without hurting them.

Will bark on command behind the sheep. Moves sheep through the yards fine, but not a backing race dog. Lies down and waits to the side when asked while I am doing work in the race.

Mango rides the bike and will generally wait on it patiently. He can be worked from the bike. 

He will fetch sheep to you and drives reasonably well. He knows side commands, keep out, speak, come, lie down, hop up, but isn’t a big casting dog.

Not the dog for a big sheep operation, but would most suit a lady handler with a few hundred sheep and who also wants a nice companion to take around the farm, house or garden doing other jobs. He has a nice big booming bark if you also want him round the house to notify of people arriving.

He lives in a nice outside kennel here in a big yard, but would adapt easily to living in a house and is house trained and crate-trained. I'm not interested in places where he would be on a chain, or locked up in a kennel most of the time. He does get put to bed in his own raised kennel at night. Travels well in a crate on back of ute/truck, rides bike and can be tied up. He would chase chooks and cats given the opportunity.
